I’ve actually had a really good reading month so far. I’m officially on Summer Break, and my window for reading has drastically improved. I’m in that sweet spot where I’m out of school for summer, and my kids are finishing up their school year. Before long, my days will be a little more full again, but for now I’m enjoying the extra reading time. Without further ado, here is a glimpse into my reading life so far this month.
Completed in May
Things My Son Needs to Know About the World by Fredrik Backman – This was such fun book of practical advice and hilarious insights into the world of parenthood. It just came out this month, and it was a fun and insightful read. It would make an excellent Father’s Day Gift! You can see my full review here.
Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum- This is a YA novel that I picked up for the Modern Mrs. Darcy Book Club. I don’t usually read YA, but this one was so fun to read. The story line was a perfect blend of light reading with heavy undertones. I’m always worried when I pick up a YA that it’s not going to be too light, which I don’t always enjoy. I’m so glad I read this one!
Searching for Sylvie Lee by Jean Kwock: I was so glad to find this one one the Modern Mrs. Darcy Summer Reading Guide for this year. I actually just finished the ARC of this one (it releases on June 4th), and it was a page-turner. I literally did not see the ending coming at all. This is the story of a Chinese-American living in the Netherlands who goes missing under mysterious circumstances. The story centers around her younger sister and the lengths that she goes to find her missing sister. It was a great one!
Tech Generation by Mike Brooks and Jon Lasser: I’m only a couple of chapters into this one, but I’m really enjoying it so far. I picked it up to learn some ways to better manage my families use of technology, and so far it’s helping in that department.
I’m also reading The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker. I’m only about 130 pages in, but I love it so far. I actually have been having a really hard time putting it down! I really enjoyed reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah last year, and this reading experience has some of the same undertones. I’m excited to see how it is going to turn out!
In other reading news, I am so excited to see the Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Guide come out tomorrow (5.16). I make most of my summer reading decisions based on this list, and since I got some early access yesterday as part of my MMD Book Club membership, I already have several of those titles on hold at the library. YAY!
